UCSD’s COVID-19 vaccination site temporarily closes
UC San Diego’s COVID-19 vaccination site temporarily closed due to a lack of vaccine supplies. The vaccine shortage is raising eyebrows across San Diego County. According to the county’s Department of Public Health, nearly 1.7 million residents have been fully vaccinated.
The supply is still tight and sites across the county are expected to fill up. However, some sites continue to offer extended hours. The county is working with UCSD on sites in the future.
In addition to the temporary closure, UCSD Health will not be offering vaccinations on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Patients with an appointment scheduled on those days will automatically be rescheduled. UCSD Health’s online appointment system, MyChart, will automatically reschedule appointments for any patients who are due to be vaccinated on those days.
The county vaccination sites will still be available for people who have not been vaccinated, but supply will slow down. The San Diego Convention Center is expected to host a vaccination site when supplies increase.
UCSD’s automated messaging campaign
UC San Diego is a leader in academic health care, with a focus on exceptional patient care, pioneering research, and inspiring education. As a result, the university needed to unify its patient communications and improve its ability to reach patients at all stages of their care. This would require the development of a multi-channel messaging campaign. The university partnered with Luma Health to develop a solution that would automate patient communications and integrate with its Epic EHR. This new messaging solution would help UCSD reach more than 300,000 patients in the early 2020s.
This campaign was supported by more than 45,600 alumni who donated $257 million, a 1,300 percent increase over the previous campaign. The campaign cabinet was facilitated by more than 100 alumni, many of whom led the effort. UCSD used Luma Health’s solution to reach more than 300,000 patients in the first month of 2020. It also integrated with Epic EHR, which includes patient demographics, communication preferences, and upcoming appointments.
